Miscellany
Looking back over the years, I see how often I painted or sketched on our vacations. It makes me glad to see not only the variety of destinations — from various National Parks to my in-laws' lakeside home — but also, the variety of media represented. Clearly, some years I travelled with watercolors; others, with acrylics, or even just a marker. I'm amused by the single sketch in watercolor pencils (which I only dimly remember owning). The stylized Ukrainian flag was painted for a fundraiser in the early days after the Russian invasion in 2022, and the still life is offered in remembrance of my instructor for the one and only painting course I ever took, at the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia, in 2018. The final, abstract image brings together my artistic and musical lives: it is taken from a video created to teach my students about orchestral color, painted in real time as the finale of Brahms' Second Symphony played.
